Psychotherapy-Somerset

Psychotherapist located in Taunton, Somerset.

Welcome to my website

I am a psychotherapist who works with both outdoor therapy and therapy in my office. For clients that are unable to meet in person I also offer online therapy.

I am located in Hestercombe gardens, just north of Taunton, close to M5 and with free parking and access to the gardens.

I work with Transactional Analysis Psychotherapy which you can find out more about on my website.

Please have a look through my pages and get in contact with me.

This is the core of my therapy:

CURIOSITY: I want to get to know you and I welcome an enquiring dialogue.

OPENESS: I am not judging; I am here to help you make the best decisions for a better future.

RESPONSIBILITY: We will both treat the sessions with confidentiality and trust.

ENGAGEMENT: You will be my focus and I invite you to bring yourself 100% to our meetings.

Remember, the journey is as important as the destination.

Mental health areas I work with:

Anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, bereavement, autistic spectrum disorder, body dysmorphia, couples therapy, sexuality, PTSD, cultural issues, menopause, pastoral care and pre & post surgery trauma...

IN IT TOGETHER

How I can help

I work with relational Transactional Psychotherapy (also known as TA). I believe that every encounter we make forms us and our view of ourselves in relation to others.

Being curious is the key to understanding our thoughts, behaviours and feelings. Asking the questions 'why do I do this?' 'How does it make me feel?' 'How do I make sense of it?' 'Who taught me this?' we can expand our rational Adult ego state and begin to process our ruptures and traumas and start to integrate them into our selves in a healthy way.

The Healing Process

“Always remember... You are braver than you believe. Stronger than you seem and smarter than you think.”

-Christopher Robin to Winnie the Pooh

THE SEARCH

Finding the right psychotherapist is important. There are many and how do you chose?

Firstly, it is important that you look for accreditation. As the titles are not protected, anyone can call themselves psychotherapists. Some are only trained as counselors and others are not even trained at all. In UK UKCP is the governing body for psychotherapists and UKATA regulates TA psychotherapists . They set the hallmarks for high standard of training, professional and ethical practice. I am member of both.

Secondly, a good client/therapist relationship is key, which is why I offer a free initial consultation over the phone or zoom. This way we can get to know each other and see if we feel we can work together.

THE JOURNEY

The journey can be short, longer or even long. Perhaps you only need me for a short walk with you or maybe you will want me by your side all the way through.

It might be hard at times and other times might be nothing more than a chat and a laugh...but it is all part of the journey. Together we will find the best way for you and we will continuously adapt as you needs will change.

The important thing is that I am with you, you are not alone.

Some clients might need the comfort of my office and others will want a walk through the woodlands, using nature as a way to reach thoughts and feelings or perhaps a mix of the two (British weather can be unpredictable).

AN ENDING

Once we have reached the place we set out for, you might feel ready to leave or perhaps you will want monthly "maintenance" sessions.

Whatever you chose, we will arrange it in a way that feels right for you and holds the significance of the work we have done.

Endings are important but are also beginnings of new experiences.

As we work we will keep this in mind so we can create a unique destination for you.

"Each human being is unique, unprecedented, unrepeatable."

-Rene Dubos

Face to face or online therapy

These sessions are regular weekly meetings for as long as you feel you need it. Here you can tell your story, put words on your feelings and together we can start to make sense of what is troubling you. Working towards a sense of your identity and establishing your strengths and (perhaps hidden) qualities.

Couples therapy

Therapy for people in relationship, friendships or parent-child (over the age of 16). These sessions are longer and take place every week or two weeks. Here we will create a space for your both to express your feelings and learn new ways to see yourself in your relationship and explore different ways of communicating.
